Information is Key

This paper discusses the possibility of using open architectures with flexible structures based on Internet technologies to integrate information from a wide variety of different sources and origins whilst at the same time interacting with on-site plant asset management tools which allow set up, maintenance scheduling, condition monitoring and calibrating of plant assets.

Integration of sensors into process control and asset management systems

Sensors are part of the plant automation network. To achieve the full benefit, they have to be integrated completely into the automation system and information network of a process plant.

ARC Strategies: Need for Business Knowledge Transforms the Role of Field Devices

Field device suppliers not only are continuing their investments in sensor technology, they are increasingly expanding beyond traditional thinking into software and diagnostics.

Endress+Hauser's Fieldgate and W@M (Web enabled asset management) are sited as new groundbreaking technologies which aid the transformation.

ARC STRATEGIES: Endress+Hauser - Leading Through Focus & Innovation

This report provides a more detailed glimpse of this company, from its initial origins to what it has become today. Through the reading of this report, one will hopefully gain a greater appreciation for a company that has performed admirably over the last fifty years and has certainly put in place a countries culture, an enthusiastic employee base, and a vision that should easily carry it forward for another fifty years.

Establishing a balanced maintenance strategy for field instrumentation

Field instrumentation devices are crucial to reliable process plant operation but often they are not included in the maintenance plan since their reliability is relatively high, but effects of age and technological obsolescence lead to reduced plant performance over time.New legislation demands more control and re-calibration, manufacturers promise very stable and highly reliable instruments. The challenge is now to newly balance the maintenance efforts and their payback.

This paper describes a methodology which allows a cost effective approach and improves the important issues such as safety and plant reliability.

So automate a process automation supplier processes

Automation with a future must prove itself in practical application. The Elektrotechnik magazine wanted to know: How does Endress+Hauser (E+H), the process automation supplier, automate processes? The Endress+Hauser plant in Maulburg specialises in the production of numerous variants. Lots of 1 are mastered at that site. (IN GERMAN)

It depends on the right data

Nobody has ever controlled or regulated anything that has not been measured beforehand. Automation engineering specialists seem to loose sight of this correct principle because many discussions of recent years have been dominated by "system architecture", "integration", "networking", "open control", "asset management" and other terms and concepts from the realm of informatics. (IN GERMAN)

Against the tide: to the sources

Nobody has ever controlled or regulated anything that has not been measured beforehand. This is not a new idea. Neither is it original. And yet, it is often ignored - even by experienced process controllers and, more frequently, by young ones. (IN GERMAN)

Status monitoring and selfcalibration of sensors

Precondition for the status monitoring of sensors ist that you have redundant informations. Amongst redundant installation you can use for this fixed known relations between independent signals. Sensor with periodic change of status, resonant systems, general dynamic systems offer a higher security of the status monitoring and selfcalibration you need a comparable exitation corresponding to ther physical measuring quantity. In recent sensors with computing power within the sensor electronics you get supplementary informations about the systems and the reliability of measuring signals in addition to the good / wore status.
