TECOSOL is one of the leading biofuels manufacturers in Europe. They operate 2 plants and produce biofuel that achieves significant CO₂ savings compared to fossil diesel. Highly contaminated residues and waste materials, fluctuating feedstock compositions, high temperatures and vacuum conditions place demanding requirements on biodiesel production processes and instrumentation. Using the complete product portfolio from Endress+Hauser, TECOSOL GmbH operates a highly automated plant in Wittenberge that ensures cost-efficient, safe and stable production.
“With biodiesel from the new plant in Wittenberge, TECOSOL achieves over 90% CO₂ savings compared to fossil diesel. It represents one of the few effective solutions for decarbonization."
Ralf Türck, Managing Director, TECOSOL GmbH
The challenge: biodiesel production under feedstock variability and demanding process conditions
TECOSOL GmbH produces biodiesel from contaminated residues and waste materials generated, for example, in the timber industry and oleochemistry. The composition of these feedstocks varies significantly, requiring sophisticated process engineering. Safe control of high-temperature and high-pressure processes is required for the production of high-quality biofuel.
Storage and loading also present significant challenges. The tank farm must accurately record all inventories and correctly reflect storage and handling processes. It also needs to ensure transparent custody transfer subject to legal metrology for all material flows. The company’s goal was to realize a highly automated plant for continuous product and process monitoring even under variable raw material flows and complex process conditions.
Our solution: engineered instrumentation for reliable biodiesel production
From planning through to commissioning, TECOSOL GmbH, Endress+Hauser and the appointed project engineer worked in close partnership. Through intensive exchange and close coordination, the instrumentation was designed to meet the specific requirements of varying residues and waste materials, withstand high temperatures, pressures and vacuum conditions and be seamlessly integrated into the automation system.
Whether level, point level, flow, pressure or temperature, the complete product portfolio from Endress+Hauser covers all applications at the plant in Wittenberge, including analytical measurement technology and automation components.
Apart from all relevant measuring and system technologies, we also offer appropriate software for all branches of industry that provide to run your operating processes at its full potential.
